How much does maintenance cost on a Tesla? (Electric Vehicles)

(Ready) Maintenance costs for Teslas Vs Gas Motor Vehicles.

What is going guys and welcome back my name is Fernando Herrera, and today I’m going to share with you how much it costs to give maintenance to an electric vehicle a Tesla Model 3 to be exact. I’m also going to compare it to a traditional combustion motor vehicle, and oh boy I think some of you will be impressed.

But before I start getting all these angry comments about how this is inaccurate, and how electric vehicles are more expensive than gas cars let me just clear the waters and say that this is solely on my experience, and everyone’s experience can be different.

Now, if you are feeling generous please help this channel by smashing that like button, consider subscribing and let’s go ahead and begin.

Honestly, this is going to be a short video because Its so simple. But here is the layout to expect, feel free to jump around and you, please.

First, I’ll talk about the expenses I had with my tesla model 3 on a 1-year maintenance costs, and estimate a two-year cost, second, i’ll calculate how much I’ve spent on my typical gas vehicles and how much a two-year maintenance expense goes against the tesla model 3.

  1. Now for Tesla.

  • Brakes (I had them checked and they were brand new, because apparently if you have regenerative braking enabled, your car’s momentum is used to build charge for the battery and doesn’t use the brakes. So really you only use brakes when you want to do harsher stops.

  • Tire Rotations were free for me because I work at a shop, however, Tesla won’t offer them and if they do your appointment will take too long, so just pay like $15 for it, so i’’l put $$60 for a total of 4 rotations for 2 years.

  • Tires (still good wear at least on these Michelin Primacy that came with the car).

  • Didn’t get an engine light, since has no engine, I did run into a battery issue light (Which is still in the form of an engine) but I blame the person who was renting the car on Turo.

  • Total spent is $60 for 2 years. C

ompare that to $5060 for 2 years, and honestly, I would dare to say that Gas powered vehicles will continue to increase in maintenance costs as time goes by, and even though that may be also true for teslas the level of increase is much smaller. Just think what else other than wear and tear could a tesla require maintenance other than battery issues which would be included in the tesla warranty for the first 8 years. or 100,000 miles.

  • No Oil Changes (only fluid in the car is like window wiper liquid (As far as i’m concerned).

  • No gas ( I know people say supercharging is expensive but 60% more affordable than gas, at the time of recording this video and at least in near where i live in last vegas. I know some places in CA electricity is expensive and could get as expensive as gas. However for me like 99% of the time I would charge home, and the only time I had to charge in superchargers were in trips and or when I needed to rent the tesla out to someone and needed

it to be charged quickly. Honestly, if you charge from home I saw maybe like a $5-$10 increase on my electric bill. You really don’t feel the difference. So I’m going to put this as Zero.

Now if you tell me that you can’t afford an electric car I understand, but just keep in mind that when you are buying a car consider adding another $200 extra per month just for maintenance that you will have to pay. That means that your Nissan Sentra could cost you as much as a tesla model 3 with all these crazy price inflation increases (and even without them).

  1. In the first two years of ownership of a regular gas car you may expect this:

    • 4-8 Oil changes $400 ($50 each)

    • Gas (Yes i’m putting gas in here) (1 a week for $40 per fill times 24, that is $4,160)

    • Brakes ($500 Brake Job)

    • Tire Rotations (Free)

    • Tires (Maybe). (Unlikely, so No).

    • Unlikely to get an engine light on for the first 2 years.

    • Total Spent is $5060 divided by 24 months that is $210 extra per month.

So now again many of the people I’ve hear talk bad about electric cars are people who haven’t owned one, or simply haven’t experienced how easy and convenient it is for some drivers.

So now my question to you is why would you settle for something other than an electric vehicle? If you don’t have one, or you can get approved on one just yet, just keep an eye for them, and once dealerships start offering electric or hybrid options, consider them because those are going to save you in the long run.

later this week I do want to post more videos about my tesla model 3 and how I got the monthly full self-driving subscription and what are my thoughts about that so feel free to talk about that. Also if you want 1000 free supercharging miles, and you are considering buying a tesla feel free to use my referral code below.

But well guys that is it for this video, let me know what you think in the comment section below, would you prefer the tesla

or the Sentra? Also feel free to follow me on Instagram trying to post more there, and feel free to say hi along the way.

Thank you so much for watching, hope you enjoy your day, peace!
